This power plant with Tri-Power was the highest horsepower engine available in any American car in 1958 (approximately only 100 of these motors were produced).
Developed by Bill Stroppe to assist Mercury in shedding its stodgy public image & enabling the company to contend in the NASCAR racing series for its second season.
